Houston, we have a problem! That's all I could think of as I drove cautiously between the heaping piles of debris on the way to Big Talbot Island, a portion of beach covered in century old driftwood just south of Fernandina Beach Florida. A few weeks prior, northeast Florida had the pleasure of being introduced to Hurricane Matthew, a category 3 storm that nearly destroyed the eastern coast of Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina. Big Talbot Island, or Boneyard Beach as many refer to it, is know for is giant oak trees that have been transformed into driftwood due to the years of erosion. As I get closer and closer, all I can think about is how much the news has been talking about the years of erosion that occurred in just a few short hours during Hurricane Matthew. Fingers crossed, I got out of my car at the Big Talbot Parking area and began to assess the damage, If we were going to be doing an engagment shoot here, we would have to get to the beach. As I walked up and down the trails, the access points had been washed away and what remained was nothing short of a cliff. To my surprise, I managed to scale down a steep sandy bluff without injury and set up a spot to shoot. Josh and Alex arrived and while I was worried they would be apprehensive about the cliffs, they made like seasoned mountain goats down to the beach front. With the sun dropping quickly, I pulled out the flash and we had a little fun posting up against the timeless trees. Josh and Alex were so laid back and in love, all I had to do was push the shutter button and watch an amazing engagement session unfold. With a little bubbly, the engagement celebration took on a new look and the two relaxed as the sun set and they drew closer into each others arms. While I have only known Josh and Alex for a short while, there is no doubt these two were made for each other. They looked so deeply into one another's eyes as if the world could have exploded around them and they would be fine together. Thank you for allowing me to be apart of such a beautiful moment in your lives. I hope to the very best for you two and may God bless your marriage as you grow closer to each other and closer to God.
